New Antibiotics and Diagnostics for Improved Outcomes

Sepsis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, resulting in over 250,000 deaths in the U.S. annually. Current rapid diagnostics don’t provide the information needed for accurate diagnosis and prognosis of acute infections and sepsis. Clinical decisions—including timing, dosage therapy, and level-of-care determinations—rely on understanding the etiology and the implications of the patient’s clinical presentation.

Early treatment with appropriate antibiotics has been shown to reduce morbidity and mortality in cases of bacterial sepsis. However, an estimated 20% of hospitalized patients treated with parenteral antibiotics experience an adverse drug event, and over two million people are diagnosed with antibiotic-resistant infections each year. In this webinar, you’ll learn about new antibiotics and diagnostic testing that can provide accurate minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) antibiotic susceptibility results to help determine more effective treatment and improve outcomes for critically ill patients.
