Tri-n-butylphosphine is used as a catalyst modifier in the cobalt-catalyzed hydroformylation of alkenes for industrial use. It is also used as a strong reducing agent and polymerization cross-linking catalyst. It is a used as an intermediate for phase transfer catalysts. Used with platinum (II) or (IV) in an intermolecular hydroamination of inactivated alkenes. It is used as 1,4-addition catalyst; used with disulfides for the thioetherification of alcohols; acylation catalyst; used to prepare active esters.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand.
