Thermo Scientific™ MacConkey Agar with Sorbitol
Selectively detect sorbitol negative Escherichia coli from clinical specimens with this selective and specific medium.
Supplier: Thermo Scientific™ R01556
Description
Selectively detect sorbitol negative Escherichia coli from clinical specimens with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ MacConkey Agar with Sorbitol prepared media plates. The medium is recommended for the isolation of verotoxin-producing E.coli O157: H7. Unlike most serotypes of E.coli, verotoxin-producing E.coli O157: H7 does not ferment sorbitol and, therefore, produces colorless colonies. In contrast, most E.coli strains ferment sorbitol and form pink colonies.
Escherichia coli O157 is a significant human pathogen and is recognized as a cause of hemorrhagic colitis, an illness characterized by bloody diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, and hemolytic uremic syndrome.
Use Sorbitol MacConkey Agar for selective detection of Escherichia coli O157.
- Sensitive and specific for E. coli O157 based on sorbitol fermentation.
- Recommended as a simple, inexpensive, rapid and reliable means of screening for E. coli O157.
- Ready-to-use convenience of prepared media.
