Leaning Tower of Pisa
Determine what keeps the Tower from falling
Supplier: Science First 6110385
Includes:
Four 1 dia. x 3/4 in. H (2.5 x 2cm) cylinders: one brass, one aluminum, one PVC, and one polyethylene; a center pin, and instructions.
Description
This demonstration illustrates that bodies that are in stable equilibrium cannot be tipped over unless their center of gravity is first raised. This is easily seen if the cylinders are stacked so the heaviest is on the bottom with the lightest one on top. If placed on a book, it will have to be raised quite high before the “tower” falls.
