Air Core Solenoid
Provides a useful magnetic field for many magnetism and electricity experiments.
Supplier: Science First 6154640
Description
- Investigate the mass of electron apparatus and experiments using the current balance (S94280)
- Constructed using four layers, approximately 710 turns, of #23 gauge (0.67mm) polyurethane-enameled copper wire
- Coil is designed to carry 7-10A intermittently and will sustain a current of 5A
To use:
- Connect a power supply that does not put out more than 5A to the solenoid
- Coil will generate a magnetic field when current passes through it
- Use a compass, iron rod, or iron filings to study the nature of the generated electric field
