Examining Barriers to Achieving Optimal Glycemic Control

Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects millions of people worldwide and its prevalence continues to rise. The problem lies not only in the increasing number of diabetes cases but also in the often suboptimal management of the disease. Clinical inertia, the delay or inaction in intensifying treatment, remains a significant barrier to achieving optimal glycemic control, which contributes to the risk of complications and poor patient outcomes and increases the economic burden for people and healthcare systems.

Patients living with uncontrolled diabetes face an increased risk of both micro and macrovascular complications that can significantly impact their quality of life. The economic burden of diabetes on healthcare systems and society at large is substantial.

This webinar will explore strategies for overcoming clinical inertia and democratizing healthcare in diabetes management, including point-of-care testing and use of cutting-edge technologies. These innovations enable real-time information sharing, enhance the timeliness and effectiveness of treatment and adjustments, and improve patient and provider communication. Additionally, patient education and empowerment of individuals living with diabetes to take an active role in their self-care can lead to better self-management and more informed healthcare decisions.
