Ibuprofen is clinically useful as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug.

  • Cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor that has greater activity against COX-1 than against COX-2.
  • Also inhibits cyclooxygenase, PGH synthase-1 and PGH synthase-2.
  • Ibuprofen is reported to inhibit the netrophil-dependent edema response of rabbit skin to C5a/PGE23.
