Infection with SARS-CoV-2 results in COVID-19. This infection has systemic manifestations, including acute lung injury, cardiac damage, and in rare cases a Kawasaki disease-like illness. With rising cases of COVID-19 nationally, clinicians can benefit from tools to inform decisions regarding triage, advanced imaging, and treatment.
Biomarker testing has emerged as a potentially useful tool to facilitate clinical decision making. It can highlight risks in patients with COVID-19, prognosticating poor outcome, and help determine where patients should be admitted (e.g., medical floor vs. ICU), how they should be imaged, and whether to apply more advanced treatments.

James Louis Januzzi, MD
Dr. James Januzzi is a member of the Cardiology Division of the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Hutter Family Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is an accomplished clinician and clinical trialist, with a research focus on biomarker testing in cardiovascular disease. Januzzi has authored more than 650 publications and is an editor of two American College of Cardiology journals.
