Decalcification for Routine, Advanced, and Molecular Analysis

Decalcification plays a critical role in preparing samples for a range of histological analyses. The process removes calcium salts from mineralized tissue while preserving the organic components for paraffin embedding and sectioning. Various methods are available, including the use of acids, chemical agents, and electric and ultrasonic techniques. The appropriate decalcification method and timing is unique for every specimen, and tissue intended for molecular testing may require special attention and handling.

Learning Objectives

This webinar will help you:

  • Review the nature of calcified tissues and the need for decalcification
  • Evaluate the various decalcification methods and their advantages and limitations
  • Describe the process of choosing an optimal decalcification method
  • Discover the effects of decalcification protocols on IHC and molecular assays
