Your laboratory wouldn’t be much use without a bench, would it? Thermo Fisher Scientific has always offered the best in lab equipment— analytical instruments, consumables, software, specialty diagnostics—and now, we’re pleased to announce that we can offer our customers the best in lab furniture as well.

In April 2015, we embarked on a partnership with Mott Manufacturing, the leading North American manufacturer of laboratory furniture and fume hoods. Mott’s extensive dealer network will work with Thermo Fisher to ensure that our customers have everything they need to carry out their research efficiently, comfortably and safely. And, because this is a true partnership, Mott’s customers will now have access to Thermo Fisher Scientific’s products and services through the Mott dealer network.

Mott offers a broad selection of products in wood, steel, galvanized steel, and stainless steel, and each of Mott’s manufacturing facilities is outfitted with the highest state-of-the-art tooling technology available. But its ability to offer specialized design solutions is what makes the company stand above other lab equipment companies.

Today’s laboratories often require extensive customization to meet highly specific requirements. Partnering with Mott allows Thermo Fisher to offer Mott’s innovative custom product solutions to meet our customers’ individual needs. Mott has the experience, software, and tooling necessary to work with customers to conceptualize, develop, design, and fabricate custom products.

Handling design challenges— from the simple to the complex—is a Mott hallmark. Whether it involves a quick modification to a dimension or something more complicated, like designing a new piece of furniture or engineering a fume hood in a custom shape or size, Mott is fully capable of offering the options our customers need in order to perform at their best.

The new partnership and its perfectly paired offerings—Thermo Fisher Scientific’s analytical products and services and Mott’s specialized design, project management and installation capabilities—mean that the new team can serve customers who are in need of furniture and space planning, as well as everything necessary for a full lab startup. It’s like one-stop custom laboratory shopping!

Mott Manufacturing Ltd., based in Brantford, Ontario,Canada, got its start in the early 1900s as Goold, Shapely Muir manufacturing farm tractors, windmills and lookout towers for fire rangers. When World War II came along, Mott shifted its focus to the manufacturing of steel cabinetry for radar equipment for England.

Ready-to-assemble kitchen cabinets came next, and in 1961 Mott branched out again into the creation of steel laboratory furniture for the Canlab furniture division. The relationship with Canlab brought about significantly increased production capacity and greater productivity.

Today, Mott Manufacturing’s extensive production capabilities and design services meet the needs of customers in a variety of markets—teaching and research, industrial manufacturing, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and government research.

The Rainforest Alliance has recognized Mott and bestowed upon the company its certification for Forest Stewardship Council Chain-Of-Custody. Mott has also been quality certified to AWI “Premium Grade” in the Quality Certification Program. Mott is a member of the Scientific Equipment and Furniture Association and the U.S. Green Building Council and is certified to ISO 9001:2008. The company’s steel and wood laboratory furniture meets the performance requirements of SEFA 8, and its fume hoods meet ASHRAE and UL 1805 standards.

Thermo Fisher Scientific is pleased to be able to offer customers the top-notch products and services that Mott Manufacturing customers have enjoyed for nearly a century and we’re looking forward to serving Mott’s customers and supplying them with products and services that will enhance their research capabilities. Together, we will make every lab more efficient.
