In addition to the lancets, needles, adapters, evacuated tubes and bottles, and other vessels used to contain specimens, other general blood collection products are used to complete the blood draw, dress the patient’s wound, and handle and dispose of the waste upon completion of the procedure.

Phlebotomy Chairs

Phlebotomy chairs provide safer seating for those having blood specimens collected. Available in various styles, most include a moveable mechanical armrest to position and support the patient’s arm during specimen collection. Order stand-alone chairs or choose those with attached storage units. You may also use phlebotomy organizers to help keep supplies neatly stored and readily available.

Phlebotomy Trays and Carts

Blood collection trays are useful when collecting blood specimens at the bedside or other locations remote from the lab. Typically customizable with various racks and section containers to hold the various tubes and supplies needed to collection blood specimens, they are also available as components of wheeled phlebotomy carts.

Tourniquets

Disposable and reusable tourniquets are used to temporarily slow the flow of venous blood to facilitate phlebotomy. Most consist of latex or non-latex material formed into a strip approximately 1 by 18 inches. Other styles, often reusable, close with hook-and-loop tape.

Alcohol Swabs

Alcohol swabs are individually packaged squares of absorbent material that have been pre-wet with an alcohol solution, most often 70% isopropanol.

Gauze Bandages

Gauze bandages or squares are often used to cover the entry point in the skin of the lancet or needle used to collect the blood specimen. The gauze is then secured with tape or a non-adhesive bandage.

Surgical Tape

Surgical tapes (latex and non-latex) can be used to hold the gauze in place that is used to cover the pierced area of the skin after blood has been drawn.

Non-Adhesive Bandages

Non-adhesive bandages can be used to secure the gauze used to cover the pierced area on the patient after the blood draw. These are available in latex or non-latex materials and in a variety of colors and patterns.

Sharps Containers and Supplies

Sharps containers, biohazard bags, and other waste disposal products are used to safely dispose of lancets and needles and other items contaminated with blood or bodily fluids.

Other General Blood Collection Products

Markers are used to accurately label any blood specimens that are not otherwise identified.

Ammonia inhalant wipes help keep patients alert if they start to faint.
