Molecular Instruments
FDA-approved rapid molecular assays can produce results in a reasonable time period (usually 20 to 90 minutes) and are more sensitive and specific for detecting influenza viruses than other flu tests. False-negative and false-positive results are less likely with these methods, and some molecular assays can also distinguish between virus subtypes.
