Description
Grantia, 1/4 to 3/4 in. (Scypha)
- A small sponge characterized by its vase or urn shape
- Has one large excurrent pore called an osculum, located at the upper end of the body
- Larger sizes have become scarce recently; however, smaller-size specimens are readily available
- In alcohol
Commercial sponge, 5 to 6 in.
- Portions of this dry sponge provide an excellent “hands-on” specimen
- Many pores penetrate the sponge and are readily apparent
