Description

Description

After learning about handwriting analysis and questioned document examination, students set out to determine if any receipts from Tumbling Water Land Development Company have been forged. To do this, students must determine objective criteria for handwriting analysis, and then apply these criteria when examining suspect receipts.

  • Analyze handwriting
  • Dissolve the ink from numbers on the suspect invoices
  • Use thin-layer chromatography to create an ink profile for each of the samples taken from the receipt
  • Determine if the same ink was used to fill out the entire form
  • Develop a complete theory of the suspected forgery
  • Class size: six groups of up to five students per group
  • For high school and undergraduate courses
  • Meets National Science Education Standards
